About Monty Sarlov

His original name is James Montgomery Sarlov. He was born on 8 October 1961 in Slough, England. He lost his mother (Jane Clayworth †1976) – who was a maid in the castle of Windsor – early. After his wife’s death his father (Montgomery Sarlov †1983) lives a reserved life. Until his own death, he mostly deals with his paintings thus Sarlov Jr. soon becomes self-dependent. Later on supported by his teachers – who recognise his genuine talent – he receives a scholarship at the Oxford University where he graduates in 1984 with Masters degree in History of Art. After a few years of practice he starts to work at the National Gallery of London as a guide of the art exhibitions but it soon becomes unsatisfactory for him. First he starts to organise exhibitions and later on auctions from his father Montgomery Sarlov’s remaining paintings. His excellent sense of business reveal itself quickly. He invests the money coming from these auctions into private businesses. In 1988 he launches the Monty Sarlov® Ltd. which first deals with estimating the value of art pieces, restauration and sales. He starts to build up his valuable network of connections. As he gets higher and higher on the social ladder he gets into contact with numerous influential and famous people. His style is seductive, his personality is widely entertaining. He is a popular gentleman invited to all prestigious events. His admiration of women is sateless, this affiliation is mostly mutual. He buys companies, launches museums, contributes to charity foundations. The origin of the priceless items of his exhibitions is sometimes uncertain but considering his immense wealth this has made only the Scotland Yard curious up to now, which agency files secret dossier about Sarlov. By his fourties he collects an enormous wealth, his companies are run by boards of directors. He devotes most of his time to arts, discovery journeys and to a passion of collecting masterpiesces – kept in secret from the public of course. Besides London most of all he enjoys Paris, Rome and Madrid.

How he looks like

He is 182 cm high, his weight is 78 kg, compared to his age quite sporty. His hair is grizzled, he got brown eyes. His appearance is laudable. He has his suits done with tailors in London but he does not really follow the trends, he dresses rather conservative.

Arts

Sarlov met with arts first through his father. Unlike his father he does not touch a paintbrush at all as during his college years his own works were widely criticized. These experiences produced an extraordinary and paradoxical relation between the art historian and the art pieces. He is a passionate collector, besides his galleries in his flat in Chelsea he also has a lot of original paintings and statues just for his own pleasure. In his collection there can be found some works of Tiziano and Canaletto as well. His passion is slowly deformed into a sick desire to possess which is leading him to a territory beyond law. His favourite artists are Renoir, Pissaro and Sisley but he is interested in the art of the Hungarian impressionists as well.

Sports

His favourite sport is sailing. He has won several times in the Multihull Catamaran group at ISAF tournaments. Moreover he often plays golf but rather thanks to his social life. After some golf mathces he goes to a race track to reduce the suppressed adrenalin and races along with one of his veteran roadsters. He is an exceptional chessplayer, during his college years he was a member of the OUCC – the college chess club. He won many matches for his club both at the traditional championship against Cambridge and in Europe.

Other hobbies

Besides the art treasures Sarlov is collecting oldschool sportscar modells, but also possesses some real cars of that kind. In his garage there is among others a 1968 Jaguar E-Type (only for daily use and to impress women), a 1959 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta and a 1964-es Shelby Daytona Coupé also. The latter two he uses by turns and drives them monthly to his weekend house to race along at the race track nearby.
