The meaning of the word ‘fian’ is ’fidens animi’, an expression in Latin which means ’brave hearted’.
In our interpretation the shop is the nurturing and 21st century expression of the Hungarian identity, by the preservation of and respect for traditions. The main profile of the shop is the supply of low and medium priced souvenirs, designed and made primarily by Hungarian artists and designers, not available elsewhere in the Castle. These souvenirs are affordable so that customers can immediately decide upon buying and taking them. The basis of our concept is the supply of design objects, appliances, clothing, jewellery, arts and handicrafts objects and images originating in the motives of the Hungarian folk art regions. 1.) Postcards, paintings, prints, graphics – with the castle and Budapest as the topic. 2.) Classic and popular music, also folk music CDs, DVDs, books in Hungarian, English and German language, with the recommendation of the fian concept. 3.) Works of the artists living in the Castle, e.g. sales of an ethno-contemporary CD called “Tüzet viszek” (i.e. “I carry fire”) of Ágnes Herczku, one of the next door neighbours of the applicant etc. 4.) Sales of publications made with the support of the Municipality of Buda Castle (book, CD, DVD.), e.g. the four volumes of the “Budai históriák” (“Stories of Buda”) published to date, the Tabán Booklets and CD appendices, and the DVD called “A mi XX. századunk”, i.e. “Our 20th century”. 5.) Clothes and leather goods of limited, individual design.
In April 2014, Akvárium Klub was renewed, offering better and more diverse events for its guests with music, food, drinks and other musical and cultural offerings.

Vajdahunyad Castle is one of the romantic castles in Budapest, Hungary, located in the City Park by the boating lake / skating rink. The castle, despite all appearances, was built in 1896, and is in fact a fantasy pastiche showcasing the architectural evolution through centuries and styles in Hungary. The castle is the home of several festivals, concerts and the exhibitions of the Hungarian Agricultural Museum.

Our tiny little shop can be found in the Buda Castle, in the side of a small but romantic passage in the Balta Alley. The main profile of our shop is the making of traditional Hungarian strudel, but we also make pompos (a traditional, pizza-like Hungarian food), cheese scones and other delicacies as well. Those who wish to have refreshment are treated with coffee, tea, juices or lemonade. In addition, we have the most beautiful and tastiest selection of honey cakes in Hungary. Doblo has become a cult place by now where guests have the feeling every night that anything can happen – and it happens! The regular guests and the less frequent visitors make a special mixture, jazz musicians dropping in do jam sessions. The place is different in the afternoon light, at night with the chandeliers and at late night operation.

We opened our Cafe in 2007. For decades this shop was selling honey cake and gingerbread, therefore in order to maintain its values we named our Cafe accordingly. Our vision was to establish a Cafe which memorates to the warmth of ones home so that our guests could feel just like there.
